Storms and blueberries
Update, October 7, 2024, written by Barb
Neil continues to improve since the extra pain medication has been corrected. He is still tired, and not very strong, but his mind is clear when he’s awake. He is enjoying life more, including a fabulous show by Mother Nature last evening. It was a dark day, but the condo has big windows where we see lots of sky. The clouds that formed in late afternoon were amazing, and apparently very rare. The sky was boiling with Undulatus asperitas clouds. We watched them form and twist across the Gatineau hills, Ottawa River and the local trees and park. Mary Ann got some good photos.
After the clouds’ opening act, the thunder and lightning and heavy rain came on. Once again we had a wonderful vantage point.
Today was busy, with visits by Neil’s friend and colleague, Cynthia, then the palliative care doctor who agreed he was in better shape than last week, and advised changes to some meds. A nurse-educator came to advise us, the caregivers, on good techniques and attitudes for caring for our patient. It was a great 2-hour visit. We also had the first visit from a personal support worker (PSW), who helped Neil shave with his new electric shaver, and tidied him up, although Neil had had a shower on Monday and declined the offer of another today. Rachel came by after work and stayed for supper and visiting.
Mary Ann gave Neil some very special treats today: fresh-squeezed orange juice and fresh blueberry juice, blended and strained from frozen berries. Since he eats very little, this got a few vitamins into him, and made his visitors jealous.
We hope that all the good naps Neil had today with not lead to a restless night for any of us.
