Jim Walker, Secretary Treasurer Physicians for a Smoke Free Canada: His legacy lives on
Dear Collishaw Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Neil’s passing. Your grief must be profound.
But, you have so much for which to be proud.
Neil had an enduring nervy and purpose to promote health and to attack the tobacco/nicotine industry in this cause.
His 1984 article CMAJ with Wigle and Kirkbride was one of the major stimuli that led to the formation of Physicians for a Smoke Free Canada. He was always an ally in Health Canada and later our Research Director. He used science and fact to promote the health of Canadians and beyond to support legislation that defended the health rights of us all.
His legacy lives on, not only in his family, but also in the countless thousands of individuals who don’t know that Neil is the reason that they are not smokers.
