Neil was my hero and mentor. He is the person who brought me into tobacco control and I was always grateful for that.

Most people never knew that when Neil went off to WHO, I kept his postion open in the hope that he would eventually return, although I knew he wouldn’t.

Over twenty years, Neil and I had some wonderful conversations. I will miss him.
