Positive visit with the doctor
After a week of watching Dad becoming dizzier and more confused, as well as weaker and with a loss of appetite, we were more than a little concerned. The palliative care doctor is doing a wonderful job escorting us and Neil through this journey. We discussed concerns with the doctor, and identified that there was a miscommunication about the timing of some pills that were impairing Dad’s brain function.
The dosage and timing of medication has been rectified, and we have removed unnecessary pills from the rotation. I am pleased to say that Dad’s mind is much sharper than it appeared for most of the week, with more physical strength. The general direction that he is going in remains the same, but he is more aware and able to focus than he appeared, so that is a wonderful relief. While he is still resting for most of the day, he is also able to walk easily (and quite quickly!) through the apartment.
In addition to the visit from the doctor, the items that the Occupational Therapist had arranged also arrived, including a hospital bed that can be raised, lowered and adjusted, and other items that will make things easier as we walk this road. One of the items was a walker, but we will trade it in for a wheelchair and hopefully be able to bring Dad out into the beautiful park surrounding the condo.
It appears that the whole ‘Original 6’ (Neil, Barb, Kevin, Rachel, Mary Ann and Laura) will be all together for Thanksgiving for the first time in years!
